ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY & EW.COM
As executive editor, oversaw editorial content for all brand areas for outlet with weekly print circulation of 1.8M and 18M monthly unique visitors to digital properties. A few samples below.
WRITING AND INTERVIEWING: Wrote numerous articles ranging from reviews to charticles to short- and long-form features, interviewing artists as wide-ranging as director Cameron Crowe and, here, the charming and talented Norah Jones.
BRAND EXTENSION: Conceived, created, and produced numerous digital and video brand extensions, such as music interview series pilot Five Rounds With... for HBO, based on a regular feature I created for the print publication. The content strategy was to have the show air concurrently with the release of the same interview edited for print. (And it’s still a rubric EW still uses to great success on YouTube, as with this recent episode with the cast of Ted Lasso.)
CONTENT STRATEGY: Oversaw the creation of Entertainment Weekly's iPad app, a digital continuation of the popular print magazine feature. It received 5 stars in the App Store, was wildly copied, and had an open rate of over 50% each Friday morning, prompted by a unique updated push notification.
Green Day image note: This photo is from a shoot by the incredibly talented Matthias Clamer for an Entertainment Weekly monthly music supplement I edited for 25 issues. His portfolio can be found here.
